As the Fourth of July holiday weekend approaches, deciding whether to get behind the wheel after a few drinks could make the difference between being free to do it all over again for Labor Day—or facing DUI (driving-under-the-influence) charges, or much worse, in court.
Here are some memorable Live PD moments where alcohol and driving proved to be a bad combination.
When a Mission (TX) Police Department officer makes a traffic stop, suspecting DUI, the driver declines a field-sobriety test. Officers not only find an open container in his vehicle; they also learn the driver may have been involved in another crime that night.
An officer with the Walton County (FL) Sherriff’s Office arrives at the scene of a serious truck crash. The driver admits to drinking and driving, but is able to escape the crash with non-life-threatening injuries.
Trooper James Casey with the Arizona Department of Public Safety pulls over a man in Daisy Dukes, who struggles to take a Breathalyzer.
An officer with the Walton County Sherriff’s Office pulls over a vehicle that has been swerving down the road. Although he claims to have had only one beer three hours earlier and is just tired, he has a little trouble with the sobriety test.
A deputy with the Santa Rosa County (FL) Sheriff’s Office pulls over a car for passing in a no-passing lane, and smells alcohol coming from the driver. The man, who says he had some beers earlier at lunch, expresses negative comments about law enforcement in his county.
An officer with the Utah Highway Patrol responds to a traffic accident and discovers that one of the drivers involved is intoxicated. The passenger in the drunk driver’s car, however, was sober.
After a vehicle almost hits a parked car, a Calvert County (MD) Sheriff’s Office Deputy First Class pulls it over and discovers the driver is visibly intoxicated and has a prior DUI.
